From the southern Maya region of the Mexican Caribbean, her land was colonized by the Spanish and pirates—ancient spiritual practices outlawed, labeled evil.
In secret, a girl later called Itzá studied forbidden magic among ruined temples, stolen stones, and moonlit pyramids.
Discovered by a priest, she was accused of witchcraft, bound, and thrown into a cenote. When she didn’t rise, they said she drowned.
But the water carried her through underground tunnels and back to the sea. Some say her body lived—others say her soul stayed behind.
After that night, a legend emerged.
Dripping water, singing like a siren, Itzá lured drunk men, cruel priests, and the corrupt into jungle, caves, trees of thorns, or watery graves—reenacting her own death.
To some, she was a demon.
To others, a protector.
To the desperate, a guide to the underworld.
When she later crossed paths with the Wild and nearly drowned one of their own, she was brought before Queen Takhisis. Instead of execution, she was offered something new: protection, training… and a choice.
Standing at the water’s edge, Itzá realized—for the first time—she was truly free.
